INDIVIDUALIZED SPELLING

Our class has individualized spelling lists.  When it comes time to take our spelling test, we meet with a classmate and test each other on our own individual lists.  Our spelling lists come from a huge 400 word test along with any words we misspell in our writing.

WOODSONG

This week we read the story Woodsong.  To help us better understand the story, we watched a video clip about sled dogs.  Here is the link.

OMLETTE MATH TASK

Math tasks are part of our new math core.

Today, we worked on a task where we had to create a sketch, use math manipulatives, and write about our task.

We explore our ideas and eventually make sense of our mathematical thinking.

Mathematically proficient students start by explaining to themselves the meaning of a problem...

... and looking for entry points to its solution.

Thinking About Story Elements

We will continue to identify story elements to help our reading comprehension and narrative writing.

Author's Viewpoint

Students have been learning to find evidence and support from the text.  They do this by quoting accurately from a text and give explicit examples and inference.
I liked today.  We went to P.E. and computers.  We played "soccer" during computers.  It was a free day.  But my favorite thing was Read-to-Self.

Our class is playing Language Arts games online.

We are focused on our task.

Classes get to work in the computer lab twice a week.

Happiness is playing learning games in the computer lab.

Learning and playing go hand in hand in our lab.

MATH AND MORE

This is an example of the associative property of multiplication.

We did a times table test that had 100 problems and it was hard.  I think my lesson for math was easy: parentheses and the associative property.  We read Phantom Tollbooth.  The class did art rotations.

Once Upon a Time

Today, our class worked on fractured fairy-tales.  We are expected to write one.  We are allowed to write it on our own or with a partner.  We have read many other fractured fairy-tales that have inspired us.  One was called "Leaping Beauty," another:  "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs."  This has been a good, fun day.

Paint's Family Tree

We are learning about heredity in science.
Our class is reading through a play that will help us learn about traits of horses.
Traits are passed on from parent organism to offspring.

Science is one of our favorite subjects.
